Viasea, the Norweigian sea freight operator, has appointed Andrew Ellis as managing director of its new UK operations.
Ellis will establish the group’s Immingham office, which is being established in reaction to increased traffic between the UK and Norway.
With three decades of experience in the shipping industry, Ellis has gained expertise in the UK market through his previous responsibilities of UK operations, sales, and management.
While he specialises in short sea shipping, he also holds a background in deep sea markets.
As part of his new role, Ellis will be involved in continuing Viasea’s “consistent, sustainable, logistics solutions”.
He said: “In order to drive forward the modal shift to containerised cargo, we are creating consistent, sustainable, logistics solutions – tailored to satisfy both the current and the future requirements of our customers.”
Reportedly a greener alternative to traditional road freight, sea freight has also proven a more cost effective and reliable system, with Viasea only operating four hours of late services in the last four years.
