Kalmar, a subsidiary of Cargotec that provides terminal automation and energy efficient handling equipment, has announced a six-year contract extension with Belfast Container Terminal (BCT).
BCT, situated in Belfast harbour and operated under concession by Irish Continental Group, is Northern Ireland’s largest container terminal.
As part of the agreement, Kalmar will supply maintenance personnel to the Belfast Victoria Terminal three (VT3), ensuring the operational availability of all cargo-handling equipment at the site.
Steven Russell, regional manager at Kalmar Ireland, said: “This service agreement with BCT will put the deep knowledge and experience of our world-class maintenance experts at their disposal.
“The collaboration between our two organisations is a true partnership built on mutual trust and transparency, and we are delighted to be able to continue it.”
In January 2019 Kalmar won the tender to supply the terminal with a complete AutoRTG system, comprising eight AutoRTGs operated remotely by the firm.
Alec Colvin, terminal director at BCT, highlighted the importance of the relationship between the companies now spanning two decades.
He said: “Our relationship with Kalmar as an equipment and service supplier goes back over 20 years, and we have always been able to rely on them to provide responsive and flexible support.”
